"grr," he groaned at her. He glared hard at her but she did not even twitch. "Fine, i will accompany you. Mind, you have been warned. if i, if any of us find out you are lying...we will find a way to make you regret it." Ethilon did not trust easily. he seemed to not even like anyone but Zach.

Ethilon looked to Zach but he was staring off into the horizon. "I...yeah. I'll be fine." Shadin nodded and continued to walk. "i wonder what she means by 'there will be no actual harm'?" He muttered to himself.

Shadin stuck her hand in her pocket and felt the cool stone. The stone of fire. At first, it had been engulfed by flames, but it had cooled to her comfort. She had spent so long at the place, she should've been dead now. They came to a place where the trees split and made a small horizontal line. She sucked in a deep breath and plunged through the line. As she entered it, it felt as if a thousand knives were digging their way into her skin, ripping flesh and bone. She closed her eyes tightly, not allowing a cry of pain to escape her lips. She clenched her fist so tightly that her nails dug into her palm, making small streams of blood erupt from between her fingers. But finally, she made it across the line, and the pain melted away as fast as it had come. She had expected it to be less than last time, but the pain had been worse.

Ethilon had watched her pass and regretted having come. he stepped forward and an immense amount of pain engulfed him. it felt like fire, burning his flesh. it felt like dull spikes, slowly puncturing his skin. Ethilon could not help himself. he fell to the ground. on his hands and knees, he looked up and saw Shadin staring at him with her arms crossed over her chest. he knew he must go on or suffer forever. he stood quickly and pushed himself out of the horrible area. the pain stopped immediately and a surge of relief overtook him. "Damn!"

Shadin stared at the dumbfounded teens standing on the othersdie of the Line. They could no longer see them or hear them. They simply needed to make the right choice.

"Ha! That's funny," he replied. She raised an eyebrow at him but then they both smiled at each other. Ethilon decided it was probably, probably, okay to give her a small amount of trust. After all, she was being nice to them.

Zach did not let out crys of pain. but he knew he just might after seeing the two already go through. he gulped, held his breath, and walked to the line. passing through, it felt like his body was being ripped up into little piece to feed to the sharks. he opened his mouth to let out a scream, but nothing came out. he dropped to his knees, half in, half out. he took a deep breath and slowly go to his feet. he pulled through the line in less than a second with a small gasp, but nothing more. Zach didn't show feelings, so he shook his hair back into place and kept a straight face. "that wasn't so bad," he said quietly, lying his guts out, "it felt kind of nice." he shoved his hands into his pockets and clenched them, trying to stop himself from letting the tears come to his eyes.

Zach stared at him fiercly. "Oh, right, i'll shut up so you can show off and flirt some more." Ethilon smirked and Shadin started laughing.

"the only thing that's flirting," Zach growled at Ethilon, "is my hand with your face." he tried to keep a straight but finally laughed. "i'm so funny, i crack myself up," he said with another one of his rare smiles. he looked at Shadin. "you don't know much about me," Zach said, "but if i smile, then i'm in a good mood. i don't smile alot, do i Ethilon?"
